What nail polish colors are best for short nails?

I have short nails and I am getting a manicure today, I am a 20 years old, I am active and have been going to the beach alot recently, I have tan skin and light brown hair.. I want to make the best out of my appointment today with the best over all color for me. Any suggestions?
