Can african americans get sun poisoning ?

Im African American and I just wanted to know if we could get sun poisoning. I work im trails outside in the heat six days a week for eight hours each day. I recently was feeling very bad while at work and had to be sent home. I was unable to eat my entire body hurt for the longest and I refused to go to the doctor but im okay now. Can anyone answer this ?
